About Melissa

This has become a very popular plant because of its unique, light pink colour and beautiful light citrus scent. We have over 2500 at our farm.

Hardiness

Zones 5-8.  We’ve lost very few to winter and have not covered them in the past.

Phenomenal

Flower Colour

Light purple

Type

French / Lavandula x intermedia / Lavandin

Height

24-36 inches (60-90cm)

Spread

24-36 inches (60-90cm)

About Phenomenal

This is a classic and popular type of lavender. A variant of what you see in the Provence region of France.  They can grow to be very large, with long stems. It, and its French cousins are late bloomers, peaking from mid-July to mid-August.

Hardiness

Zones 5-9.  We cover our Phenomenal in late November and remove the covers in early May depending on the weather.  Both this and Grosso are much more sensitive to long periods of cold winds.

Fragrance Notes

High levels of camphor and highly fragrant. We would describe this as a “soapy” scent compared to English which is more sweet.

Uses

Great for any kind of aromatic uses. The very high oil yield (3 times the English lavender) from these plants makes it attractive for growers and distillers.
